There is a being who teaches in the space between waking and sleeping, between living and dying.
He can answer all our questions because he knows every one of us.

I said to him:
Wise one, I have used the secrets of stillness to leave my body behind in order to see the happenings of this world beyond my senses.
Yet I use the same techniques to enter deep within my soul in order to speak with the deep archetypes.
How can one path lead to these two places?

He said:
Both are dreams of the one mind. I will tell you a story because you can not understand this.

In the beginning, Time severed Mother Earth and Father Sky, generating the prehistoric world.
The blood from their wound flowed from our first father and into the fertile depths of our first mother.
Wisdom sprang forth from the abyss. And in that action, she coupled with Chaos to become pregnant with the first archetypes of mortal humans.

On the first day of history, Wisdom gave birth to the twin androgyny: Magic and Mystery.
Their bodies were not like ours. In the place of genitals, a mirrored form attached. Each twin had two of our bodies, indefinitely locked, legs and arms entwined, forever looking into the eyes of a complete, whole being.

These two manifold beings laid in the fold of Earth and Sky, unaware of their grandparents, until Chaos came up from the deep and called to Time. When Time arrived, Chaos hid himself in illusion and phantom noises. Chaos tricked Time into walking a complete circuit around the androgyny.

In the moment Time complete his circuit, the twins became aware of the world outside themselves. Magic said, “Who is there outside my vision?” Mystery answered, “I am.”
Magic said, “I can not see you. What can you see?”
Mystery said, “I am all that I see.”
Magic said, “I can not see you. I will say an incantation so that we may see beyond ourselves and we may walk over the Earth and upright through the Sky like the one before us.”

Magic cast his spell. Half of Mystery shrunk until it inverted within the body of the other half. Half of Magic shrunk until it barely remained within the outside world. This is the invention of our present form.

Mother Wisdom saw that Magic cursed the original forms. Enraged, she cast out Magic and made him mortal. In sorrow, she locked away Mystery in a garden apart from the physical world.
Magic roamed the Earth. He sought for what he lost. Unable to find it, he took matter and animated it. At first, his creations were little more than living clay. As he practiced, the days past and the world filled up with a variety of living forms.
Finally, he created a being that had his own image. He loved it, which gave birth to the first humans.

Father Time saw all this and wanted to undo his wrong. He could not reverse Magic’s spell, nor could he unwalk his original circuit. Instead, he invented a ritual.
Time left the garden of Wisdom and Mystery to walk through the heavens above the moral world. When he made a full circle, he implored Wisdom to open the garden gates and call the mortal Magic back. Foreseeing that her son would die, she agreed with Time.

Magic left the mortal world behind. When he saw Mystery, both were filled with longing for their lost wholeness. They came together as one being. And then Magic died.

Time passed and Religion was born from their union. Religion wandered the mortal world until Time completed his circuit and the ritual occurred again. Philosophy was born. Then again Science. And all the while, Mystery remains and longs to be filled to wholeness.
